According to the Netflix help page, you can just download select movies and shows on your phone when you have internet.
Here’s everything you need to know.
There are some moments you’ll remember forever—landing your dream job, holding your baby niece for the first time, getting engaged, and learning that Netflix will let you watch shows and movies on your phone when you’re not online. Yep, you read that right.
Netflix announced to its customers on Wednesday that it will let people download content and watch it without an internet connection or using up their data. That means you can watch Orange Is the New Black while sitting on the subway or cry over The Crown on an airplane without paying a ton for in-flight internet. This. Changes. Everything.
According to the Netflix help page, you can just download select movies and shows on your phone when you have internet. So yeah, “select” is the key word here—not every movie and show is available for download, but Netflix says more are coming. To see if one you like is available, search for it and look for the download icon. You can also select “Available for Download” from the main Netflix menu.
Once you find the show you want to download, click on the title and hit the download icon on the description page (for TV shows, the icon will show up next to each available episode). Once your show/movie has finished downloading, you can see it in the My Downloads section of your app.
To see the magic in action, you just need to download the latest version of the Netflix app. Heads up: This doesn’t seem to be an option for your computer or laptop yet, but hopefully in the future it will be.
