Actress receives marriage proposal with a drone on her 36th birthday

Zhang's boyfriend, Chinese musician, Wang Feng, popped the question at the actress' 36th birthday party over the weekend.

Zhang Ziyi, a Chinese actress who's most popular for role in hit movie, Crouching Tiger, is now engaged after accepting a modern proposal delivered by a drone.

In a picture made available by Chinese media, Zhang is seen standing beside her three-tiered, pastel coloured birthday cake, and dressed in a one-shoulder red dress. With her hand covering her mouth, the actress watched in amazement as Feng retrieved a nine-carat diamond ring from a basket flown in by a white drone.

The musician was said to have gone on one knee thereafter, asking Zhang to marry him. It was such an emotional moment, and she said yes in front of family and friends.

According to Chinese media via Associated Press, Wang said: "Witnessed by all, we have experienced happiness and sorrow. I hope Ziyi can always have the happiest time. If we both are old, I can still take care of you."

AP further reports that the newly engaged couple kissed as the sky was lit by fireworks.

Chinese media also reported that a day after her dramatic proposal, Zhang posted a photograph of heart-shaped fireworks with the caption "I do" on her Sina Weibo account.

Wang, 43, also posted a comment about his engagement on Sunday.

"Thanks you for giving me a complete life. All the hardships are bygones. From now on, we will grow old hand in hand," he wrote.

The couple have been dating since October 2013. It will be Zhang's first marriage, and Wang's third after his second marriage ended in divorce in 2012.

Zhang was previously engaged to the Israeli American venture capitalist, Aviv "Vivi" Nevo, before the couple separated in 2010.

She became famous for her role in the popular martial arts film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000.

Zhang has starred in almost 30 movies including House of Flying Daggers and The Grandmaster.

She has also received numerous award nominations, including nominations for a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA, for playing the lead role of Sayuri in Memoirs of a Geisha.

Wang is a rock musician who has produced eight studio albums since 2000. In 2013, he became a coach in season two of The Voice of China.
