Wedding gift registry is not a new concept, however it is only just gaining popularity in Nigeria.

What is a wedding gift registry you might ask?

It is involves having a compiled selection of gifts hat the recipient would like at a designated location thus eliminating the stress of having to go around different stores looking for gifts.

A wedding gift registry could also be referred to as a shared wish list of sorts.

In this instance, the registry is only for wedding gifts but it can also be used on various occasions like baby showers, bridal showers and so on.

The below highlight the importance of a registry for both the newlyweds and the guests.

  1. You do not have to physically deliver the gift, thus saving the couple the hassle of worrying about how bulky gifts are going to be collected and delivered to their home. This shows the importance of  a wedding gift registry as it has all the gifts in one place and can make the gifts available to the couple at a scheduled time.

  2. Appreciation- A wedding gift registry lets the couple know exactly how much a guest has spent on a gift for them, thus, a guest is more likely to receive a heartfelt and direct thank you from the couple based on the gift received.

  3. Generosity- A wedding gift registry causes the guests to be very generous, as no one wants to be the only guest who has not bought anything for the couple.

  4. Good gifts- Most times, people just buy whatever they want for the couple without really considering the needs of the newlyweds. However, a registry lets the guest know exactly what the couple needs thereby, minimising the risk of getting unwanted gifts.
