One of the bridesmaids at Princess Diana and Prince Charles' royal wedding has revealed how she sold her dress from that day.

Sarah-Jane Gaselee told reporters that she now "bitterly regrets" flogging the famous outfit, which she wore for the wedding of Charles and Diana in 1981.

45-yr-old Ms Gaselee, the daughter of racehorse trainer Nick Gaselee who schooled the Prince of Wales as a jump jockey, was just 11-yrs-old when she played a part in the royal wedding.

But she sold her Elizabeth Emanuel-designed bridesmaid dress to Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, in 1999 for an estimated £11,000 (about N3.5 million).

Her brother James told Sebastian Shakespeare for the Daily Mail: "She now bitterly regrets it, but she needed the money at the time. She got criticised, but the truth is she was a bit hard up as a youngster and needed the cash."

Ms Gaselee once said she remembered every second of the 1981 wedding.

"The roar was deafening. It seemed the whole world was cheering. It was overwhelming," she said of following Charles and Diana out of St Paul's Cathedral.

Ms Gaselee was speaking after previously unseen photographs of the wedding were released.

In the photos, Princess Diana reveals a glowing smile for the camera while winding down minutes after marrying Prince Charles in the biggest wedding of a generation.
