Meet the world’s fittest female firefighter

For her day job, firefighter Gunn Narten douses infernos and saves lives—enough to be a hero in anyone’s eyes. But somehow the 30-year-old Norwegian also finds time to be a personal trainer and moonlight as one of the fittest women on Instagram, posting photos of her tough workouts and physical feats in unique locations, including her local firehouse.

(There’s even a photo of Narten “overhead pressing” a fire truck . . . but we’ll assume there’s some trickery happening in that one.) It isn’t every day you find a strong, sexy woman wearing all that bulky firefighting gear—but that’s exactly why Narten joined the profession in the first place.

“I have always loved being active and being part of a team,” Narten told The Daily Mail. “When I found out you could combine this with a physical job, challenging tasks and doing something good for others, the choice was easy. When I applied for the job in the fire department my mom said, ‘I have never heard of a female firefighter before . . . why you?’ And I answered, ‘Why not me?’”

Narten runs, plays football, and does CrossFit with her male colleagues at the firehouse—“I want to make sure I can keep up with the boys,” she told The Daily Mail—but if her photos are any indication, she probably smokes ‘em in every competition. As for the other men she encounters who may be scared off by her job? “Maybe they think it’s too ‘manly’—but if they can’t handle a girl with a chainsaw, they need to toughen up!” Narten said.
