Here's how 28 pounds of feces managed to accumulate in this man's bowels

Not even laxatives could help jumpstart his digestive tract.

However, this medical marvel in China takes the idea of digestive obstruction and brings it to a new level.

Recently, Chinese doctors had to remove the bowels of a man who was carrying 28 pounds of feces in his unresponsive tract.

According to Inverse, the man suffers from Hirschsprung’s disease, a rare congenital condition that can render your intestines useless due to an absence of nerve cells.

These missing cells keep your bowels from properly contracting to maintain the flow of food through the digestive tract, nullifying the effectiveness of even laxatives (which the man had reportedly been using for years).

As a result, this unnamed man became stuffed with food and feces to the point of appearing nine months pregnant.

His stomach reportedly "looked like it could explode at any time," and as you can see from the photo above, in which one of the operating surgeons is carrying the man's infected bowels, that description is no exaggeration.

Thankfully, the surgery has put him on the road to recovery.

However, if you're concerned about your inability to make a bowel movement, Hirschsprung's disease may not be the culprit. Here are 10 other causes of constipation that you should learn about.
