Planet Fitness commissioned an online study of 2,006 American men and women and they found that 7 out of 10 women were attracted to men with up to 20 extra pounds on their frame.

The Washington Post estimated in 2015 that those men make up 37% of American males ages 20-54.

Planet Fitness, which strongly promotes body acceptance, ordered the survey so their members would know they wouldn't be judged while working out, Jessica Correa, senior vice president of marketing at the gym, explained.

"So on Father's Day this year, we thought it would be fun to look at how men and women – parents or not – feel about the dad bod," she said.

"Our survey results show the majority of people think positively about dad bods, and men who identify as having them are proud of who they are. That's exactly how we want all of our members to feel when they come to Planet Fitness."

In addition to finding that the surveyed women are attracted to the dad bod, the results also revealed that 78% of women found that those men are confident in their own skin.

Other results from the survey included that almost half the women feel like dad bods are the “new six-pack” and 83% of mothers would be proud to have a husband with a dad bod.
