Oscar Winner Gives Skin Education On Sesame Street [Watch]

The actress joined Elmo on the famous animation to discuss and educate on 'Skin' - types, colours, and purpose

Lupita Nyong'o stopped by Sesame Street on Tuesday, Sept. 16, where she and her furry friend Elmo talked about the body's largest organ - The Skin!

Both characters love the skin they're in and want everybody in the world to feel confident and powerful in their own skin, especially in their skin colour!

"Did you know all animals and people are covered in skin?" the actress, 31, asks an incredulous Elmo. "Not Elmo!" he responds. "Elmo's covered in fur."

The two then proceeded with the 'purpose' of skin. "Our skin covers our whole body to protect it, Elmo. You can use your skin to feel if something is rough…" the 12 Years a Slave star explains. "Skin comes in lots of beautiful shades and colors."

It's no news that the Kenyan-born, Mexican-raised actress didn't always feel confident in her natural skin. At the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon in early 2014, she told the audience: "I remember a time when I felt too unbeautiful."Later in April 2014, the People's Most Beautiful Woman of the Year was announced as the first African-American face of Lancome cosmetics. Nyong'o also hit another big milestone in her career as Vogue's July 2014 issue cover girl.

"She knows the camera, she knows her angles," the magazine's executive fashion editor, Phyllis Posnick, noted of the gorgeous star.
