5 useful tips to dealing with an annoying airplane passenger

There's nothing more annoying or frustrating than a chatterbox seat partner, and in the course of travel, we're likely to encounter one or two of such people.

So you've finally made it through the rigours of check-in and immigration, boarded the flight and ready to just catch some much-needed sleep, or watch a movie or even read. Definitely not in the mood for any conversation.

The problem is, the person you're seated next to has other ideas, soon enough they lean over and begin the usual line of question that will possibly lead to a 1-hour conversation.

What to do!?

There's also the arm-rest hogger who'll take up the entire arm rest, leaving your arms hanging limply, not to mention the hundred and other other annoying passengers we can encounter in the skies.

The next time you find yourself in any of the above situations (plus a few others), here's what you should do.

1. The Chatterbox: Don't be rude, go ahead and exchange a few pleasantries after which you can then excuse yourself from the conversation saying "if you don't mind, I'd really like to get some sleep/I have some work to do...." Turn away and do your hardest to keep it that way.

2. The Arm Rest Hogger: The absolute worst, but once again, hostility is never the way to go. The general rule is the person in the middle seat usually gets the arm rest, however, if you'd like some space on the arm rest then simply inch your way in by placing just your elbow next to theirs.

3. Invading personal space: You know the one who's newspaper suddenly ends up in your face or their bag, ask if they'll mind moving their bag/newspaper just abit.

4. The Seat Recliner: If someone reclines their seat too far behind, politely ask if they mind lifting the seat a little, or recline your own seat to create more space, but remember to check to see if the person behind you isn't inconvenienced by this.

5. The Snorer: Ear phones are best best for this. Invest in solid noise cancelling ear phones before travelling.
