1. Research your destination ahead:
Research for and gather as much information as you can lay your hands on before you get on a plane. Whatever your reasons for visiting, make sure you are adequately equipped with information about where you plan to stay and visit. That way, you can avoid any surprises as you know exactly what to expect.
2. Dress modestly in deference to the culture:
Be careful when selecting your clothes because the last thing you want to do is to disrespect the culture with your mode of dressing.
Indians appreciate long and loose fitting clothes as it is a huge part of their culture. Locals will be more open to providing you information and offering assistance when they approve of your dressing.
3. Have enough cash on hand:
Although it is unadvisable to travel with a lot of cash, it is important to have a good amount of cash on hand.
Make sure you have Rupees on you so that your transactions can be easier and hassle free. Also, changing your currency into Rupees when you are already in the country and touring can be cumbersome. You should change your money as soon as you get to India.
Paying with cash also reduces the risk of having your card cloned by fraudsters. Cash is also a saving grace when local ATM's or POS machines don't work.
