5 reasons you should take smoothies

Depending on the mixture of fruits that make up the smoothie, it can either taste yummy, or truth be told, yuck.

Banana and Kiwi smoothie

Green smoothies fall into the latter category, they don’t often taste great- I don’t imagine vegetables will taste as good as pineapples.

However, taste aside, smoothies are very good for your metabolism and a healthy alternative to fizzy and carbonated drinks.

Here are five reasons you should have a smoothie every day:

1. Smoothies keep you hydrated

Having a smoothie in the morning, or for breakfast helps you stay hydrated for the rest of the day. Unlike fizzy drinks that dehydrate you, a smoothie does the exact opposite. Your body pulls water from the different fruits contained in the smoothie to keep you hydrated.

2. Smoothies give you your daily dose of fruits and vegetables

Consuming the right daily recommendations of fruits and vegetables for a balanced and healthy diet can prove to be a challenge. Blending the right portions of the required fruits and into a smoothie will ensure that you consume the recommended amount and meet your nutritional needs.

3. Smoothies help with weight loss

Most weight loss programs and regimens actually require you to replace a meal with a liquid drink, preferably a smoothie.  Your body can get hold of all the required vitamins and minerals through rich smoothies. Taking smoothies in place of late night meals can help cut out all the weight gaining food from your diet, helping you lose weight easily and effortlessly.

4. Smoothies help you detox

Our body systems are exposed to countless artificial preservatives and chemicals, leaving our bodies begging to be detoxified.   Taking smoothies regularly will give your digestive system a break and help you detoxify, especially if you add detoxifying ingredients such as kale into your smoothie mix.

5. Smoothies boost and strengthen your immune system

Smoothies made with the right amount of fruits and vegetables help contain natural vitamins that fortify your immune system. The cliché saying ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away; is nothing but the truth. Instead of stocking up on the many multivitamin tablets available in pharmacies, prepare healthy smoothies instead. Not only are smoothies natural and better, many of these multivitamins aren’t proven to actually fortify the immune system.
