Betty Willis, the artist who designed the popular Neon sign 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas', is dead.

The Neon sign which was erected in 1959, and sits in the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard, has for over 50 years, welcomed strangers and tourists to the city.

“There was no other word to use. Las Vegas was fabulous, and we wanted to advertise that.” - Betty said in 2008.

Betty died at her home in Overton. Her daughter confirmed the news after a mortuary posted details on its website.
