Actress and tailor face legal action as bride sues for damages

The red dress saga continues with official charges being filed

Mercy Aigbe's 40th birthday celebrations were marred when her pre- birthday shoot went awry thanks to the red dress in question. It transpired that the dress was actually intended for a bride but tailor, Maryam Elisha gave it to Mercy instead unbeknown to the original client. Drama ensued online as the bride called out the tailor and she replied.

Mercy Aigbe consequently came out and stated that she had absolutely no involvement in the situation because she had no idea the dress was intended for somebody else.

After the drama, to better understand the bride's position from a legal point of view. The lawyer told us that the bride indeed did have the right to sue both under the civil and criminal act and it seems that is exactly what she has chosen to do.

Despite her public denial, Mercy Aigbe has been named in the lawsuit with the bride seeking damages from both Mercy and the tailor in question, Maryam Elisha.

The bride, named as Mrs. Lawrentta Adesuwa Sawyer, served Maryam Elisha through her lawyers, Capitalfield Attorneys. In the document, they state that:

The entire sequence detailed above has evidenced a deliberate and fraudulent conspiracy between you and Mrs. Mercy Aigbe to convert our client's legal property for selfish gains.

It is pertinent to note that a party to a contract is under an inescapable obligation to perform its obligations under such a contract. Accordingly. Your failure and wilful refusal to honour your contract with our client satisfies all elements of a breach of contract and entitles our client, ipso facto, to commence legal proceedings against you in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Mercy Aigbe's Lawyer's Rebuttal

However, Mercy Aigbe is refusing to take the accusations lying down. Her lawyers, Nwokeji Ibeakokwe & Co, have responded to the letter indicating she never met with the designer of the controversial outfit let alone conspired with her to deny the bride her outfit.

Mercy Aigbe has however demanded a public apology within 7 days or she'll also seek redress in a law court and further sue the bride and the designer for false accusation and trying to defame her person.
