If there’s one thing that all Nigerians can agree on, regardless of tribe or skin color team, it is Football. We are into everything from the English to the Spanish Premier League.

So we may as well pull some style lessons from what is considered the most famous sport, at least to Nigerians, especially men. Here  are 5 style tips we’ve learned from the 2015/16 season:

  • Bench the bushy beard: Taking a cue from Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, something between a designer stubble and a short beard is great. It just isn’t trendy to have an unkept bushy beard.

  • Nice haircut: Always having a great haircut can’t be overrated. Learn from Harry Kane, the classic number 9 with minimal hairstyle. Although, a different texture from most Nigerian hair, Kane’s cut is a great reference, as it’s simple and confident.

  • Party look: We never quite have a party season as Nigerians, as any day could be a party day thanks to weddings and the sort. To put you through; Mr. Anthony Martial, Manchester United striker, who donned a velvet jacket, white shirt and black tie look at November’s UNICEF Gala Dinner.

  • The new casual: No one does this better than Watford’s Quique Sánchez Flores, who forgoes the traditional suit for an unstructured blazer styled with a crew neck shirt. So, trade the bank look for soft-shouldered single- and double-breasted blazers, textured crew necks and sharp ankle length pants.

  • Wear white outward: Usually, most of our whites are underwear but Liverpool and England’s Daniel Sturridge is flipping the script. The striker layers white outerwear and shades of off-white with contrasting coloured clothes like black and green.
