The Lagos Street Carnival which would have been a huge success had to be cut short due to uncontrollable crowd at the venue.
The annual event which was introduced last year December to showcase the state’s potential for tourism, arts and entertainment held on Sunday, December 3, 2017.
Lagos Street Carnival witnessed a huge turn-out of people as fun-loving Lagosians came from all parts of the state to grace the colourful event.
It featured music, colourful parades done by 57 Local Government Councils and Council Development Areas, cultural displays and musical performances.
Speaking at the event, Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode, represented by his Deputy, Idiat Adebule said “I congratulate the people of Lagos State for coming out en mass to participate in this year’s carnival. We thank God for his grace; it is eight solid hours of fun and entertainment.”
“We are keeping our campaign promises that with entertainment and arts we will give the best to the people of Lagos State. “Today, you can see that it is a parade of different colours from different groups. This event is to usher in the festive period we are into. The reason why we are in government is to make people happy”, He concluded.
Guests were treated to amazing performances by Reminisce, Olu Maintain, Small Doctor, Saheed Osupa, Salawa Abeni, Dapo Tuburna, Myro and Big Shef with DJ Spinall on the wheels of steel.
The carnival which was hosted by Woli Arole, Toyin Abraham, Denrele and Hypeman Jimmie had various security personnel like Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps patrolling the whole arena while LASTMA, FRSC and VIO officials controlled traffic.
Lagos Street Carnival 2017 will have been a huge success but was ended abruptly around 9:20PM due to the uncontrollable crowd which denied guests the opportunity to see some of their favourite artistes like Olamide, CDQ, Niniola, DJ Lambo and more who were present backstage.
