This achievement is a reflection of Oti Bazunu’s passion and determination, overcoming the hurdles of funding, infrastructure and then Boko Haram and Ebola scaring away artists along the way has not been easy. However, over this time Oti has proved that his Vision “Dare to Think Differently” is, despite everything, attainable.
The global music industry is moving towards major events, usually festivals, being the corner stone. These days, music lovers build a relationship with those events that reflect their tastes. Burning Man, Newport Jazz, North Sea Jazz, Montreux, Glastonbury are the names that attract the headlines and the footfall. They have artists coming to them. Music lovers book before they even know who is playing. Africa has very few of such events – Cape Town Jazz and Zimbabwe’s Harare Arts are probably the only two Festivals that are consistent. it is possible to build LJS into the most celebrated Music event in Africa and put Lagos at the pinnacle of the Musical Map of Africa.
In 2015 LJS are again bringing an incredible line up of International Jazz Superstars augmented by our homegrown musical ambassadors. Over the weekend 26 to 30 November 2015 at four venues at four events Lagos will have the chance to enjoy Grammy award winners such as the vibrant Robert Glasper Experiment, the innovative Yasiin Bey (often referred by his previous name of Mos Def) and the up & coming trumpeter Christian Scott. These will be playingalongside our own ‘Omo Ile’ Seun Kuti & Egypt ’80, freshly returned from another successful international tour as well as, back from New York with her band, Ayo Awosika. In addition we bring you the passion and flair of Andalusian Spain with the Pablo Escudero Flamenco Troupe. More supporting local artists will be announced over the coming days.
