Gov tasks medical practitioners on more 'hypertension' awareness

Mimiko urged the populace to check the level of their blood regularly to avoid casualty on the disease.

Mimiko gave the charge in Akure at the 3rd Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Ondo State chapter 2016 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference.

NAN reports that the event was themed: “Hypertension: Understanding a Silent Killer’.

The governor, who was represented by Dr Dayo Adeyanju, state Commissioner for Health, said that there was need to create more awareness on the causes and effects of hypertension.

According to him, there are no signs and symptoms which can prompt one to quickly seek for medical help.

He, therefore, urged the populace to check the level of their blood regularly to avoid casualty on the disease.

The governor said that the government would need more consultants at the Medical Village, Ondo, to meet more medical needs.

Mimiko promised to pay all the arrears of the medical practitioners before Dec. 3, saying medical workers’ welfare remains a major concern to his administration.

Dr Stella Adegbehingbe, the Chairman of MDCAN, had earlier said the conference was designed to update members’ knowledge.

Adegbehingbe said “hypertension is a global public health problem which is increasing in the society and affecting all gender, irrespective of age.

“Hypertension is a silent killer causing many sudden deaths in our environment”.

The chairman called on the members to pay attention to hypertension issues so as to be able to give better care to the patients and save more lives.

She added that MDCAN would continue to offer qualitative service to the people of the state in various centres.
