Nasarawa Governor’s wife trains 50

The governor’s wife advised the people of the state to adhere strictly to the federal and state government health advice on Lassa fever, adding that it will go long way in helping to prevent the spread of the virus in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs Al-Makura is running the programme under her NGO, Mother and Child Care Enhancement Foundation.

Addressing the participants on Tuesday in Lafia, she charged them to take the campaign to all nooks and crannies in order to combat Lassa fever and other communicable diseases across the state.

Represented by the NGO’s Coordinator, Alhaji Alhassan Adamu, she advised residents to promptly report any suspected case of Lassa fever to the nearest health facility centre for timely professional care.

"Our mother, Mrs Salamatu Al-Makura has decided to train these 50 community care givers and volunteers so as to fight Lassa fever and other communicable diseases across the state because a healthy nation is wealthy nation.

"These volunteers are expected to be dispatched to rural communities considered vulnerable to Lassa fever and other communicable diseases with the aimed of eradicating Lassa fever in Nasarawa state.

"The community care givers and volunteers are also expected to create awareness to rural dwellers on what Lassa fever is, its transmission, prevention and treatment for the overall development of the country,” she said.

She assured the people of the state of her foundation’s determination to initiate more positive strategies in order to fight poverty, unemployment and youth restiveness as well as eradicating diseases in the state.

She commended Al-Makura for his developmental strides across the state and called on the people to sustain their support to enable the governor deliver more dividends of democracy.

Responding on behalf of other participants, Mr Shaba Joseph, also commended the NGO for the training and promised to convey the message to different communities.
