The Nasarawa State Government on Wednesday organised a one day training for 70 health personnel in the state on the treatment of Lassa fever to check its spread.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Iya, said in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, that the training, became imperative, following the outbreak of the disease in the state.

Iya added that it was meant to boost the confidence of health workers in handling patients with Lassa Fever-related symptoms and how to manage them.

The commissioner said that one patient had died of the disease, one confirmed case, and six other suspected people being quarantined.

Iya urged the health workers to be committed to the efforts to curtail the spread of the disease in the state.

"As health professionals, we play a key role in containing the spread of Lassa Fever in our communities and we must take the responsibility of doing so to the best of our abilities.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participants were drawn from both primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the state.
