Govt stockpiles anti-malaria drugs, others, for free distribution

The state government said the multi-therapy drugs have since been distributed to all Specialist and General Hospitals.

This, according to the government, is to combat malaria and other child-killer diseases in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Almustapha Othman, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria( NAN) in Sokoto on Friday, October 7.

Othman said the multi-therapy drugs had since been distributed to all Specialist and General Hospitals, as well as Primary Health centres across the 23 local government areas in the state.

According to him, the drugs will be distributed free to patients.

He said the gesture was part of efforts by the state government to effectively combat malaria and other child-killer diseases.

The permanent secretary said the state government had also accorded priority attention to polio immunisation as part of measures to eradicate the disease in the area.

”Adequate facilities, vaccines and other logistics are routinely provided by the state government in this direction.

”The state government is also focusing on boosting routine immunisation against other child-killer diseases.

”All these measures are being intensified to further reduce maternal and child mortality caused by diseases,”he said.
