Dr Christopher Edeh, Head of Dental Department, Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, says the department offered free oral examination to over 300 persons suffering from dental problems during the World Oral Health Day.

The World Oral Health Day is celebrated globally every year on March 20 to highlight the importance of oral health for a healthy body.

Edeh advised Nigerians to always check on their dentist to maintain a healthy oral culture.

According to him, good oral health also improves self-esteem and enhances social interaction, while poor oral hygiene can lead to serious health conditions.

“Healthy living starts with clean mouth, hence the need to take good care of the mouth which does so many things in the body."
“People should always visit dentists in order to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice daily; after eating in the morning and before going to bed."

“We have decided to offer free oral examination to over 300 persons during the World Oral Health Day as part of our commitment to improve on their health condition,’’ he said.

Edeh added that poor oral health can cause gum diseases that have been linked to diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular problems, stroke, and premature birth.

He said that infection of the mouth poses serious risks to other major organs of the body.
