Authorities record 6 cases of cholera outbreak

Alege, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin, said that the outbreak has not claimed any life.

He said that the victims comprise four adult and two children.

The commissioner said that the outbreak was recorded in Ogidi, Oko-Olowo, Pakata, Oloje and Alore areas of the metropolis.

Alege said that four of the victims had been discharged from the hospital, while two others were responding to treatment.

He attributed the outbreak to failure of some residents to properly wash their fruits before eating them to break the Ramadan fast.

Alege said that Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed had ordered immediate provision of potable water to the affected areas to curtail the outbreak.

“The state Ministry of Health has also intensified its awareness campaign against outbreak of cholera and other communicable diseases.

“Four state government-owned hospitals have been designated to handle any reported case of cholera, while the state general hospital serves as referral centre,” the commissioner said.

He advised the residents to complement the state government’s effort toward ensuring a healthy living environment at all times.
