The programme was brought by MAMM, an organisation set up after the death of Mark Anumah, a Paediatric Surgeon.

Surgeons perform laparoscopic stomach surgery

The programme coordinator, Prof. Felicia Anumah, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday after a week-long free medical treatment offered to patients at the Specialist Hospital, Lokoja in Kogi.

Anumah, who also works at the Endocrinology and Diabeteology Department, University of Abuja, said that they had treated 2,321 patients and performed 80 different surgeries.

“We have done our best, we rounded up on Friday and on the whole we have treated 2,321 patients and performed 80 surgeries.

“We really do not feel any different as a foundation; but what is important to us is that we have made positive impacts in the lives of other human beings,” she said.

Anumah noted that the programme was brought by MAMM, an organisation set up after the death of Mark Anumah, a Paediatric Surgeon who had passion to give quality health care to the voiceless and faceless Nigerians.

“After his death, we felt that this passion should not be buried and we started this organisation in his name.

“To offer specialised care to patients with diabetes and hypertension, perform paediatric and general surgeries, among others across the nation,” she said.

NAN reports that various surgeries performed were prostate surgery, fibroids operations, operation of goitres, hernias surgery, and dental procedures among others.
