The Jigawa Government on Tuesday said it had given free eye treatment to 70,570 people in the last 10 years.

Ashiru said the eye surgery, which was sponsored by the state government as well as national and international partners, was conducted between 2004 and 2014.

Dr Abdulrahman Ashiru, the Coordinator of the government’s Eye Care and Neglected Tropical Diseases initiative, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
He explained that 33,898 glaucoma patients and 36,672 cataract patients benefited from the exercise.
The coordinator said the exercise was conducted in Hadejia, Gumel, Ringim, Kazaure and Dutse.

According to him, free drugs were distributed to all affected patients.
