Liberia is Ebola-free, rejoice!

After over a year of battling the deadly disease, Liberia was finally declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organisation (WHO), having passed the 42-day mark of not recording any new case.

Expectedly, the news put the country in a jubilant mood, having lost 4,700 (more than any other country), of it citizens to the deadly scourge.

To this end, a public holiday was declared so pupils and workers could celebrate the virus being brought under control on Monday.

Liberians took to the streets with signs and posters with messages like "We will always overcome" and "We are the winner".

Others danced, played drums and waved flags in celebration.
