Pastor Sam Adeyemi versus Bisi Alimi and Twitter thumb pushers

People bashed Pastor Sam Adeyemi for his tweet about mental health without understanding his Christian based beliefs.

Pastor Sam Adeyemi

On his timeline, yesterday, the man of God was talking about mental health. This has been a topic that has been steadily on the rise over the last few years as suicide and other mental issue related illnesses have come to the forefront.

One tweet triggered the onslaught on Pastor Sam. "The root cause of mental illness is Sin. (Rom 6:23) and the foundational solution to mental health is Salvation #MentalHealth" tweeted the good man of the Lord.

For sure a lot of people pounced on this, disagreeing vehemently with Pastor Sam. This is fine, it is okay to disagree but some of the things tweeted about him were unnecessary and uncalled for. The topic was about mental health and not Pastor Sam Adeyemi but a lot of people lost the plot.

One of the people who disagreed with Pastor Sam Adeyemi was LGBT frontman was Bisi Alimi.

As always he took to his Instagram page and wrote "Just went I thought I really don't want to get involved in #Nigeria church business, the likes of Pastor Sam Adeyemi aka @thesamadeyemi will drag me out of retirement. What do you make of this tweet from him? Yes it was a thread and he said some other things, which to me doesn't erase the fact that this statement above is nothing but deceit, stigmatising and shaming. He might have tweeted later to make some stupid comment to override this, it still doesn't excuse this one tweet. Remember, Sam is well educated and he leads one of the youngest and most educated congregation in Nigeria. If he can get away telling them this bullshit, just imagine the psychiatrist who attends his church. The one that you have appointment with tomorrow. Just imagine what he/she will tell you. Things like this make me cry for Nigeria. The things our pastors will say and do for money and congregation. Okay oh!"

Now this is where I disagree with you lot. There is freedom of expression and Pastor Sam Adeyemi is allowed to speak his mind. Remember he is a man of God and a Christian who sees things as good or evil and black and white.

According to the Christian faith, sickness is of the devil and sound health is of the Lord. I don't see why there is so much fuss over what he said. This is his belief based on his faith. Everyone has his own religious code so does Pastor Sam Adeyemi.

I don't agree with Pastor Sam Adeyemi's particular view about sin and mental health but I am not carrying a placard. To each his own. The key thing is I understand Christianity

A lot of people ranting about what he said including Bisi Alimi don't understand Christianity. They only take the part about God's love and not being judgemental but ignore the part about sin and its consequences.

Like I said yesterday there are too many rebels without causes on Twitter who are nothing but thumb pushing thugs annoyed at the slightest opinion that doesn't fit into their rainbow coloured world.

Not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you and that is called life. Respect the fellow's man opinion without insulting him. And why are you bothered about what Pastor Sam Adeyemi said, are you, sinners?

If a public figure says Bisi Alimi's views on homosexuality is "bullshit" we would be quick to call that person homophobic. It's ironic that someone who preaches tolerance is the one hacking another man down now. What Pastor Sam said might be weird to you just as how homosexuality might be weird to me but you don't see ranting about gay people on social media.

A lot of us claim to be tolerant as long it does not disturb us and that is hypocritical.
