Wife seeks divorce over hubby's choice of next of kin

A housewife is seeking divorce from her husband of three years because he chose his sibling as his next of kin.

Divorce.

The complainant, Folasade Fayemi, on Friday, January 27, 2017, urged a Customary Court at Agodi, Ibadan, to dissolve her marriage over his decision to make his brother the next of kin.

The housewife also accused her husband, Temitope, of beating and harassing her.

“My Lord, my husband bought a plot of land and put the name of his sibling as the next of kin without considering me and my son, who is the only child of the marriage.

“He loves his siblings and mother more than me, always in close contact with his mother and hardly tells me about his movements.

“Worse still, he beats me always and does not care about my welfare; the court should separate us since he prefers his mother and siblings to me,“ she told the court.

Daily Post reports that Temitope denied the allegations leveled against him, insisting that he still loved his wife, while pleading with the court to save their marriage.

The President of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, urged both parties to explore the possibility of a reconciliation, saying “the court is interested more in reconciliation and settlement of rifts between a couple than dissolution.”

Balogun urged Temitope to make the move of reconciliation and report back to the court.

The case was adjourned to February 1, 2017.
