The usually calm community of Race Course around the Murtala Mohammaed Square, Kaduna, was thrown into a state of confusion and pandemonium when residents found a new born baby boy that was wrapped in a polythene bag and abandoned by unknown mother just before GOC roundabout in the city.

According to eyewitnesses, the poor baby was discovered by some Almajiri boys, (Islamic students), in a pit in the morning and the drew the attention of passersby who all expressed shock at the uncommon find.

It took a female passerby some courage to climb into the pit and pick up the baby and other woman volunteered a veil with which the boy was wrapped while the police were called in to take control of the situation.

Typical of such situations in the country, many women who could not handle such wickedness, broke into tears, with many raining curses at a woman who could have the heart to abandon a baby after carrying him in her womb for 9-months while there are many women who have not been blessed with a fruit of the womb.

One woman was reported to say:

"Just look at what my sister is looking for after years of marriage and somebody just abandoned a baby here. I am not sure it is going to be well with the wicked soul that did this."

Another resident identified as Malam Ibrahim Abubakar, said:

"What kind of wickedness and foolishness is this, after keeping this baby for nine months? Is this what the mother of this child thought is good for this baby?"
