Instead of allowing the rap skills of their dead sister to flow on the beat like the original or completely ignore it, Left Eye was replaced by Japanese pop queen, Namie Amuro. Leading to the spark of conflict between Left Eye’s family, fans and TLC.
TLC Kicks Left Eye Out!
Ok, here is the thing, it's TLC celebrating its 20th anniversary and what an honourable way to celebrate if not through music? The Grammy winning group now made up of Tionne «T-Boz» Watkins and Rozonda «Chilli» Thomas decided to re-record their hit single “Waterfall” but excluded late member, Lisa Lopes aka Left Eye from the new hit. How selfish!
According to Lisa's family, TLC could have had the courtesy to ask for permission before re-recording the song and further claimed they were never informed of TLC’s decision of replacing their daughter on the remix. Left Eye’s mother was hurt and left in complete shocked.
“I only got a hint from a fan who posted it online. I mean, it would have been nice if we were given a heads up before being surprised”
While critics have called the remix a cry for buzz as the group makes its comeback with a new album and a reality show on VH1 starring Lil Mama, Keke Palmer and Drew Sidora, the surviving members have yet to address the controversy. In stead, they have been busy hooking up collaborations with Ne-yo, Drake and J.Cole.
“There’s a lot of great things coming up lately for TLC and one of the things that we’re known for is entertaining and touring — and so I say, ‘If it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’” T-Boz said. “Like, why not go out again and do what we love to do best?”
Hope its rectified pretty soon!
