Killer mum beaten, slashed in prison
Daily Mirror now reports that Kathryn has had her face slashed in an attack by two inmates at the women's facility, Derbyshire jail, where she has been serving her term, while 10 other inmates had looked on.
Earlier reports had revealed the sentencing of Kathryn Smith, 23, who had been jailed for beating her 21-month-old daughter, Ayeeshia Jane Smith to death.
The reports say that Kathryn had screamed in pain as she was punched and stabbed during the four minute attack on a stairwell which was not covered by CCTV.
A source reveals that the attack which was carried out with a home made knife, reportedly left Kathryn with a two-centimetre cut across her cheek.
Some of the staff at the facility confessed lack of sympathy for Kathryn, considering the manner with which she had killed her daughter.
"No one had any sympathy for Smith. What goes around comes around.”
The attack is reported to have raised security concerns at the facility which reportedly houses 300 prisoners.
Kathryn, a drug addict had been sentenced to 24 years in jail just last month for her daughter, Ayeeshia's murder in Burton.
Kathryn's ex partner and Ayeeshia's father, Matthew Rigby, had also been found guilty of negligence in his girl's death, bagging a sentence of three years.
