A Tucson, Arizona, fire fighter, David Watson, now knows the real meaning of the adage that the evil the men do lives after them.
Fire fighter charged for murder of ex-wife, mother-in-law, 15 years after
A cold case was revived when a fire fighter was arrested for killing his ex-wife and her mother 15 years earlier.
The 46-year-old Watson has been arrested and charged with the August 2000 killing of his ex-wife and the later killings of his former mother-in-law and a third woman, a case that had been tagged a cold case for 15 years.
Watson was finally arrested on April 25, 2015, nearly 15 years after the first of the killings and is being accused of killing his ex-wife, her mother and another woman. He now faces three counts of first-degree murder.
According to ABC News, Watson and his ex-wife, Linda, were involved in a bitter custody battle when she was reported missing on August 21, 2000.
Her body was found in the Tucson Mountains in west Tucson in 2003 among the remains of immigrants who died while walking the treacherous desert about 70 miles north of the Mexican border.
Watson is also accused of killing Linda's mother, 63-year-old Marilyn Cox, and Cox's friend, 53-year-old Renee Farnsworth, on May 7, 2003.
The women were gunned down at the home of Linda Watson after Cox returned from a court-mandated visit with her granddaughter, Watson's child with the late Linda.
Cox had been in a legal battle with Watson over the girl.
Watson has worked for the Tucson Fire Department for 20 years and in 2007 was promoted to captain, but the fire department was not notified he was a suspect in the murders.
