A mother in Sri Lanka has been arrested for selling her son so that she could raise money to travel abroad with her boyfriend.

A Sri Lanka mother and her lover have been arrested after she sold her five-year-old son to raise money to enable her travel abroad with her lover.

The woman reportedly sold her child for Sri Lankan Rs30,000, (about $500), reported Emirate247.

The police was tipped off in the deal and they swooped in to arrest the woman, her lover as well an agent who helped them sell the child to a police undercover agent.

The incident came to light when the woman and her lover went to Colombo and stayed at a lodge to look for potential buyers. A reliable tip-off to police led to their arrest.
