Malaysian authority sentences boy to jail for Facebook posts

Any one found guilty of making offensive posts on social media is liable to face a year jail term and also pay a fine of 12,500 dollars under Malaysia's Multimedia Law.

According to Punch Metro, Shakri, before being sentenced by Johor Bahru Sessions’s court, pleaded guilty to insulting the Johor royal family.

He made the posts between March and April 2016, which is an offence under Malaysia’s Multimedia Law.

According to Deputy Public Persecutor, Azizah Mohamad, the law states that posting of online contents intended to annoys, abuses, threatens, or harasses others, another person is prohibited.

Breaking this law will fetch the offender up to one year imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 12,500 dollars, Punch reports.
