A drunk Naval officer has been arrested for shooting three people in Lagos.
Residents of Majidun village, a sleepy community in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, were thrown into pandemonium when a drunk Naval Officer allegedly opened fire on three people, leaving them seriously injured.
The incident, according to eyewitnesses, occurred on Monday, August 24, at about 3 pm at Tipper Park in the area, when the officer who was on surveillance duty in the area to prevent pipeline vandalism, left his duty post to for the park and while trying to adjust his gun, the weapon went off, with the bullets hitting the three people who were going about their businesses at the park.
Realising the enormity of his actions, the Naval personnel tried to escape to his post but he was apprehended by some brave men who handed him over to the officers at the Naval base in Ikorodu, while the victims, including a tipper driver, were immediately rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Patricia Amadin has confirmed the report, adding that the suspect had been arrested and was currently being detained at the Base, while investigations into the matter continue.
