Lawmaker Says Boko Haram Still Rules Bama

Sen. Ahmed Zanna says that despite claims by Nigerian soldiers that they have successfully dislodged the Boko Haram sect in Borno State, the insurgents still control Bama town.

The senator representing Borno Central in the upper house of the National Assembly, Ahmed Zanna, has cried out about the unending activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect whom he says are still in control of  Bama, the second largest city in Borno State.

The senator who raised this alarm said that despite reports that the insurgents have been dislodged from the state, they still hold sway in the town and are making life difficult for the people.

The Boko Haram sect had seized Bama in the first week of September after a fierce battle with soldiers that lasted days and claimed many lives on both sides. But the army has always disputed the claim, insisting that soldiers are in charge of the commercial town located nearly 60 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

But Sen. Zanna has contradicted the military authorities by restating that the insurgents are still in control after installing an emir in the town.

Hear him:

Nothing has changed. Bama remains effectively in the hands of the militants and our people are dying of hunger and diseases.

The military has refused to liberate Bama months after the terrorists had taken it over.

The military is capable of ending this once and for all but is hampered by a number of interests holding it down.

I see no reason why the troops cannot flush out the rag tag militants from this town despite their (troops) successes elsewhere especially in Konduga.
