Neighbour pours hot oil on pregnant co-tenant, causes her to lose baby

A pregnant woman who was attacked by her co-tenant and bathed with hot oil has lost her baby.

An injured Chinwendu Nwobodo has also lost her first baby

A 25-year-old pregnant woman, Chiwendu Nwobodo, has last her baby after she was bathed with hot groundnut oil by her fellow neighbour during an altercation that occurred over the sum of N900 the attacker, Iya Daniel, demanded after Nwobodo poured her balls of buns (puff-puff).

The incident, as reported by Punch, happened at the compound where the two women resided with their fanmilies at Ogbomosho Street, Ijesha, Surulere area of Lagos State, resulting in Nwobodo losing her two-months-old pregnancy, with Iya Daniel currently being detained at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti, Yaba.

The victim's husband, Chigozie, told newsmen that apart from the loss of the baby, his wife has also developed complications as her left ear was now oozing pus.

According to neighbours, the incident happened when the two women had a disagreement, during which the pregnant reportedly kicked away some balls of 'puff-puff' belonging to the assailant who allegedly demanded for N900 as damage, which the victim’s husband promised to pay.

But Iya Daniel did not wait for Nwobodo's husband to return from work before attacking her as she waited for her at the door of the toilet and when she was coming out, Iya Daniel accosted her and emptied a bucket of hot groundnut oil on her, scalding her severely.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital and placed on admission while policemen from the Ijesha division, but was later released on bail before the SCID rearrested her when the case was transferred there after the victim lost her baby.

“She developed complications and started losing blood from her private parts. We were advised to do a scan, and the result showed that she had lost the baby.

We were advised to take her to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The doctors said they will have to flush her system to remove the remains of the baby. They also prescribed some drugs to her.

I am sad because it was supposed to be our first child. We have been married since May 2014 and we were happy when our family doctor confirmed that she was pregnant.

But now that she has lost it. I am angry because Iya Daniel caused it. This is murder. I want the law to take its full course in this case,” the bitter husband narrated.
