'Obasanjo, "grandfather of corruption", is our daddy' - Reps

If we bar people from speaking because their hands are dirty, drug lords will roam free and cabals will transcend centuries

Former president, OlusegunObasanjo dances during birthday celebration on March 5, 2016

Senators are armed robbers without guns... Obasanjo is the grandfather of corruption... Feels like a Nollywood trailer.

Quickly I reach for my bowl of garri and groundnut(recession popcorn), cross my legs and ready myself to enjoy another beautiful episode of “Throwing stones within our glass houses.”

As you may know, any movie featuring Obasanjo is worthy of an Oscar and sure enough, I was not disappointed.

After campaigning against the errant Goodluck Jonathan, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has now become an open critic of the change he sought.

Speaking recently at the first Akintola Williams Annual Lecture on Wednesday, November 23, Obasanjo asked President Muhammadu Buhari to stop blaming past administrations for Nigeria’s economic crisis.

He then switched his focus to the National Assembly - “the National Assembly is a den of corruption by a gang of unarmed robbers”.

But while President 'Go Slow' was busy processing his response, the National Assembly replied his shots with shots.

"Unquestionably, he (Obasanjo) is the greatest corrupt person ever to hold office in Nigeria. He remains the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria and lacks the moral authority to discuss corruption” - Abdulrazak Namdas, Reps spokesman.

If there’s one thing the House Of Reps hates, it’s hypocritical snitches. Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin was recently banished to the naughty corner for speaking with his mouth full.

He had alleged that the house was guilty of budget padding but instead of an investigation Jibrin was suspended for 180 days.

Now it was time teach ex-President Obasanjo a lesson for trying to remove the golden spoon from their mouths. For daring to say of the assembly,

“It needs to be purged. With appropriate measures, the budget of the National Assembly can be brought down to less than 50 percent of what it is today.”

“Members of the National Assembly pay themselves allowances for staff and offices they do not have or maintain...you go home with not less than N15 million a month for a senator and N10 million a month for a member of the House of Representatives."

N10M and N15M each a month in this biting recession. And our ‘over competent’ CBN Governor went out of his lane to propose every call above 3 minutes be taxed, even though we already paid VAT.

He neither suggested the salaries of Senators be halved nor for banks to reduce their lending interest rates to single digits. In his mind only rich people make calls above 3 minutes. But this article’s not about that buffoon.

Our Senators and Reps did not in any way deny the allegations leveled against them by Obasanjo, rather they chose to discredit him.

Reminding him that he birthed the 4th Republic National Assembly “with corrupt practices from day one” and is only bitter the house foiled his third term bid even after bribing each member with N50M.

The apple never falls far from the tree. What our Reps are saying, in essence, is ‘they are corrupt because their grandfather, Obasanjo, who birthed them is also corrupt.’

But it takes a thief to spot one and it takes a snitch to provide the inside scoop. If we bar people from speaking because their hands are dirty, drug lords will roam free and cabals will transcend centuries.

Olusegun Obasanjo is not a saint but please let him continue singing. Anything to block out the moronic harpings of our ‘yet to be fired’ CBN Governor.
