Parents abandon 4-yr-old mentally challenged child in hospital

A couple who could longer cope with taking care of their mentally challenged child decided to abandon her at a hospital in Ogun State.

Due to their inability to continue catering for a four-year-old mentally challenged child, her parents have decided to abandon her at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Staff of the hospital were shocked when they saw the poor boy girl a note on her where the parents narrated their plight and their inability to take care of the girl due to her condition.

According to some eyewitnesses who saw when the couple came in with the child, they had come in with the pretext of getting medical attention for the child and had headed straight to the physiotherapy department at the administrative block of the hospital.

But after several hours, hospital staff noticed the child was without her parents and no one had come for her.

A search in her pockets revealed a note stating that the parents were unable to care for the mentally-challenged child.

The social welfare department of the hospital immediately contacted the police authorities.

According to the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Oladapo Sotiloye, arrangements are being made to transfer the girl to the state government-owned Stella Obasanjo Motherless Home.
