Nigeria’s ranks very low on the Gender Equality Index at 118 out of 134 countries. A lot of things that are crimes in saner climes are considered normal in Nigeria.

Issues like sexual harassment, domestic violence and marital rape are not seen as problems by many Nigerians. A lot of Nigerians are even unaware that these things are issues and that they are wrong.

According to the ranking, and a look at our immediate society, we can see the stark reality that we still have a very long way to go as regards gender equality and all gender related issues.

This is why ‘The 50/50’ campaign was developed. Courtesy of the organisers of the 50/50 campaign, Pulse strivia team interviewed both men and women across three states across Nigeria; Kano, Enugu and Lagos.

They were all asked the same question ''is it okay for a man to beat a woman?'' There were different kinds of responses and the answers exposes the thoughts of Nigerians on domestic violence and female harassment.
