Readers want police officers who violate rights of people jailed

A whopping 67% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters believe police officers who violate the rights of citizens should be jailed.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has continued to warn police officers not to violate the rights of members of the public, urging them to be civil when dealing with people.

But despite this warning and several reprimands, police officers seem to be a law on to themselves, carrying on as if the ordinary citizens are animals and should be treated with disdain and disregard.

We have seen situations where officers brutalize and dehumanise people with reckless abandon. Some have outrightly killed, maimed and torture offenders as if thy have no rights at all.

This has brought a lot of outcry by members of the public with the IGP urged to take urgent steps to stop his men from brutalizing people.
