Readers say they won't marry a spouse who physically abuses them

85% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters say they will not marry an abusive spouse.

Worried girl

Domestic violence is clearly something that many frown upon as it has led to untimely deaths in the marriages. We hear stories of husbands beating their wives to death, or wives stabbing their husbands death, ostensibly in self defence.

But one wonders how it all creeps into an otherwise happy union. Some believe that it starts from the dating days when one of the partners is abusive but the other partner is either silent about it or hoping the partner would change with time.

Some women go into such marriages blindly, hoping that with prayers, such men would turn a new leaf.

But experience has shown that a woman beater hardly knows when to stop as they derive their 'manliness' from exacting such authorities.

How Nigeria voted:

15% - Yes, I will pray for God to change him

85% - No, he will never change
