7 People we got tired of this year

As the year draws to a close, Pulse List brings you seven popular Nigerians who have gotten into the skins of the masses and should be forgotten in the coming year.

Lai Mohammed - Minister of information and culture

The year 2016 is no exception as it cruises to an end in the next few weeks with many Nigerians hoping some people in the country should just keep quiet as they had gotten too garrulous for various reasons.

If they were not attacking the government, they were jumping on to issues that do not concern them. If they were not making excuses for failures on the part of the government, they were cooking up tales and pushing the blame on others.

Here are seven people Nigerians got tired of in 2016.

1. Lai Muhammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed is the number one person Nigerians got tired of in the year 2016.

Muhammed did not know when to end his regime as the Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and settling into his role as a minister as he was always on the attack, jumping on any issue that concerns the party.

Nigerians gave him a nickname, ‘Liar Muhammed’ due to his penchant for double-talk. During the 2015 presidential election campaign, Muhammed was at the forefront of making promises on what the APC would do if they were elected into power, but after the elections, he was never consistent, often telling Nigerians that the party never made those promises.

If there was any man Nigerians got fed up of hearing his double talk, it is Lai Muhammed.

2. Ayo Fayose

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Peter Fayose is surely a study in controversy as he moved from one to the other with alarming consistency.

If he was not going around his state in shorts and T-shirts, he was seen in the markets buying and selling local items or making a mockery of governance.

Fayose also took opposition to another level by becoming the number enemy of the ruling APC and staunch hater of President Muhammadu Buhari. There was nothing the President did that got the approval of Fayose as they were always at variance with what he believed in.

In one of such instances, Fayose wrote a letter to the Chinese government never to grant a loan request by the President during a state tour of the Asian country.

Though many see Fayose as fighting on the side of the masses, many others believe he took his opposition too far with some of his antics which included going to his inauguration wearing a short and a T-shirt.

Many of his critics believe he is playing to the gallery by always doing things that are at variance with the government. However the case may be, Nigerians are tired of the antics of Governor Ayo Fayose.

3. Femi Fani-Kayode

Any wonder that Femi-Fani-Kayode and Governor Ayo Fayose are best friends? If you are in doubt, cast your mind back to the moment the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stormed a bank in Ekiti State to arrest Fani-Kayode’s wife for trying to withdraw money from her husband’s frozen account.

In a commando-style, Fayose stormed the bank with his security details and forced the anti-graft agency to release Mrs. Fani-Kayode. In giving a statement to back up his action, Fayose said he could not stand by and see the EFCC embarrass the wife of his best friend and brother.

Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has been a thorn in the flesh of the present government, always posting scathing articles in his column in the New Telegraph Newspaper. He is Mr. Controversy as spares no one in his attacks including women whom he had affairs with at various times.

Recently, he really went dirty when he had a war of words with billionaire businessman and politician, Jimoh Ibrahim who wanted to become a governor in Ondo State under the PDP. Fani-Kayode really took Ibrahim to the cleaners by calling him many unprintable names.

He would surely not be missed if he should keep quiet in the coming year.

4. Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo

Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo prides herself as having the secrets of every celebrity in the country and would not hesitate to unleash them whenever the spirit moves her.

This daughter of a one-time governor of Oyo State does not spare anyone as she has continued to be the nemesis of men of God, actresses, actors, politicians and just about anyone she thinks should come under her radar.

One funny thing about her is that she feels she has the right to attack anyone since she is a "world-famous journalist" but when the table is turned against her, she is quick to be on the defensive.

The likes of Nollywood actors, Jide Kosoko, Dayo Amusa, Cossy Orjiakor, singer Olamide, blogger Linda Ikeji, Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor Enoch Adeboye have come under Kemi Olunloyo’s barrage of attack and she would not be missed by Nigerians if she goes under the radar in the coming year.

5. Garba Shehu

Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant, Media, and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari is another Nigerian many would love to forget about as they are tired of his antics and double speak.

Just like Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Shehu has been fond of releasing statements credited to the Presidency that makes one wonder if he really has the interest of his boss at heart.

He seems to come up with statements that are at variance with what the President says and sometimes, issues statements that cause embarrassment to the office.

Most times, the Presidency has has to come up with a statement to counter what Shehu says and the embarrassment is unbecoming of a presidential spokesperson.

6. Senator Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye is controversy personified and the earlier Nigerians forget about him, the better.

The Kogi West Senator is not one to sit still for a week without stirring up one hot issue or the other, be it posting his fancy cars on social media to posting a video of him dancing in his bedroom to fighting in the Senate, Melaye has it all.

This year alone, he has been enmeshed in some disgraceful scenes especially his fight and alleged threat to the life of fellow Senator Remi Tinubu, the wife of the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a hot exchange.

Not one to know when to stop, Melaye made a trip to Lagos to prove that he does not fear the ex-governor of Lagos as he strode on his Bourdillon Street and thereafter posted photos of his triumphant entry into the state and Lion’s den.

7. Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, is a lawyer but that is where the nobility ends as he is another Nigerian many would love to get rid of in the coming year.

Since he came into power, Wike has fought with almost every member of the opposition APC in his state and his regular sparring partner, Rotimi Amaechi, the current Minister for Transport and his immediate predecessor.

Shortly after the resumption of office, Wike sacked all the local government chairmen inaugurated by Amaechi and dared him to do anything about it.

Wike has bounded from one controversy to the other including the one he is most famous for when he led his security team to prevent the arrest of a Judge in the state by the DSS.

He is currently at loggerheads with the Independent National Electoral Commission as the rerun elections into the vacant senatorial positions looms and has also accused security agencies of planning to assassinate him.
