There has been a major fire outbreak at Lekki Phase 1’s biggest retail store, Prince Ebeano Supermarket, today, Tuesday, November 2015.
Millions lost as fire outbreak hits Lekki retail store
‘Ebeano’ as it is popularly known and situated along Admiralty way has been badly burnt with goods lost – potentially totalling into the millions, by estimations.
The fire is said to have been caused by an electric spark – a customer tells Pulse it started out small and then quickly escalated.
‘It was just a spark, they tried to put it out but it kept growing bigger and bigger’, the customer said.
A worker at the store tells Pulse that the Fire Service was immediately alerted when the spark started but it took them about an hour to arrive.
When they did, they came with a half tank of water; the fire outbreak at this point had burnt into the roof and looked impossible to put out. The Fire Service men could barely put out a small section of the fire.
No lives were lost in the outbreak. A few injuries were however sustained.
Ebeano is a one-stop retail store for residents in Lekki – it is a suitable substitute for those who cannot drive to the Palms Shopping Mall across the Lekki-Epe expressway.
