Friends of the deceased, started a trend on Twitter to highlight the incident and blame the Nigerian medical system for its consistent failure in saving lives.
According to witnesses, the two girls held on, and refused to let each other when the tide was high. One could have survived said the witness, she refused to let go of her friend.
