Naija politicians showing Twitter love all because of 2019

2019 is almost and Nigeria politicians are already scrambling for youth votes.

The politicians are already begging for votes or else how would you explain lawmakers and people in government congratulating Davido and Wizkid?

This is not the first time Davido and Wizkid are winning a MOBO Award. Yes, Wizkid won a very big category normally reserved for American acts but the timing of the congratulatory messages are odd.

No one really blinked an eye when Senator Ben Murray Bruce sent his congratulatory tweet. The esteemed senator has a deep background in music and entertainment.

However, when Atiku Abubakar tweeted at Wizkid (and later Davido) I knew something was going on. I could smell the thickening of the plot from the black pot of conspiracy.

Vice-President, Prof. Osinabjo got on the act too and congratulated the Messi & Ronaldo of our generation. To borrow from the once great music group, Styl Plus, imagine that. At this point, I could see the plot in all of its glory. It was piping hot and ready to be served.

Success, they say has many fathers. The father of the nation, President Buhari not to be outdone by his deputy or 2019 rival also hailed Davido and Wizkid. Plot served. Even Goodluck Jonathan got in on the action too.

You don't need a detective to help you connect the dots. 2019 is practically here and politicians need all the goodwill from young Nigerians. Davido and Wizkid are the leaders of the new school. You can get a nice bunch of votes from the youth demography if you are cool with not only them but the likes of Olamide, 2face Idibia, D'banj and Phyno.

Every four years it seems the ruling class and political elite remember the youth. While they are in power they have amnesia but once elections are around the corner, they want to be friends-with-benefits, "You sing for me and I will drop money for you."

The ruling class comes up missing like Ozil in big games when it comes to enacting laws that would help the entertainment industry prosper. It's cool to send tweets but how about anti-piracy and intellectual property laws?

The popular song 'E be like say' by 2face Idibia readily comes to mind right now. With 2019 coming fast, I won't be surprised to see politicians rocking Vans sneakers and milly rocking like Jesse Lingard at the Emirates. Anyone say culture vulture?

It's cool to congratulate musicians, there is nothing wrong with it. The problem at hand can't be solved by 280 characters from verified accounts.

Successive governments have mortgaged and squandered the lives of young Nigerians thanks to incompetency and corruption. The present and future administrations should try not to play to the gallery.

If they are concerned about the future, the ruling class should start by revamping the educational sector, bringing back the health sector from the dead and creating laws that allow talented young Nigerians benefit from their works.

Anything less is just Twitter bants.
