Man kills his friend after watching Walking Dead 'I thought he was turning into a Zombie'
A New Mexico man who had been watching the hit TV series The Walking Dead beat his friend to death because he believed the victim was turning into a zombie, police said.
Damon Perry, 23, of Prewitt, New Mexico, is charged with murder after allegedly attacking Christopher Paquin, also 23, with kicks, punches, sharp-edged objects and items including a guitar and a microwave oven, police said.
Perry attributed his actions to heavy drinking and watching the popular AMC television show The Walking Dead that focuses on a zombie apocalypse.
Police in Grants, New Mexico, responded to 911 calls from residents at an apartment complex who reported Perry was running around threatening people with a knife.
Neighbours said Perry left the apartment and began chasing neighbours, possibly soon after he killed Paquin. He followed one woman in particular with a knife until she locked herself inside her apartment. Later maintenance staff of the building pinned him down and called the police.
Perry is being held at the Cibola County Detention Center in New Mexico and a preliminary hearing in the case is set for 3 November.
The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series developed by Frank Darabont, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman.

Total viewership for its season five premiere was 17.3 million, the most-watched series episode in cable history.
