Police dock 25 men over alleged tresspass on monarch’s land

The accused, who all reside in Lekki area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of public peace.

Oniwara Nzeko, 26, and 24 others, who all reside in Lekki area of Lagos State, were docked at a Yaba Chief Magistrate’ Court in Lagos.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the men and others still at large, on April 8 at about 6.15 a.m., were found trespassing on the monarchs land at Itedogbowe Ikate, Lekki in Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, earlier in the year, the men had trespassed on the piece of land and had been warned many times to desist from further trespass on the Elegushi’s property.

He said that the men were arrested following a report by some members of the community, who alleged that their conduct on the piece of land could likely cause breach of peace.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 168(d) Cap C17, Vol III Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr P. A Ojo, admitted the men to bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Ojo said that the sureties must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State, and adjourned the case until May 8, for substantive trial.
