According to new rankings, the Nigerian passport is one of the world's least powerful travel document.
One of the criteria for ranking passports is by the number of countries that can be visited without applying for a visa. Remarkably African nations, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Central African Republic, Liberia, Algeria, Chad, Rwanda, Madagascar, Gabon, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Egypt, Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Senegal rank higher than Nigeria.
The South African passport is ranked 46 making it the most powerful passport in Africa. The five most powerful passport in the world are;
Germany and Sweden
Finland, France, Switzerland, Spain, United Kingdom
Denmark. Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, South Korea, Norway
Singapore, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, United States of America
Greece, Ireland, Japan
A single African passport, which is already available to African head of states and African diplomats, would most likely come into existence by 2018.
If this becomes a reality, it would solve Nigeria's passport problems. A lot of Nigerians face a lot of delays at many airports in the world because of the Nigerian passport. As a matter of fact, the Nigerian passport is treated with disdain around the world.
