A Nigerian man based in South Africa has brought shame to the nation after he was sentenced to 20 years for forcing a teenager into prostitution.
Times Live reports that Ugochukwu‚ a businessman‚ was convicted on Monday, March 13, 2017, after he was found guilty of sexually exploiting the teenage girl.
It was gathered that Ugochukwu had abducted the girl after she ran away from home on the pretext of helping her, only to force her into prostitution as well as sleeping with her on several occasions.
While delivering judgment, Judge Majake Mabasele said what Ugochukwu did to the girl was cruel and heartless.
"Clearly what happened to her was cruel, inhuman and degrading and in violation of the right to human dignity, which is enshrined in our constitution.
The accused is sentenced to 15 years for counts 3‚ 4 ‚ 5 ‚ 6 together. He is sentenced to 10 years on count 8. Five years will run concurrently with the 15 years above."
The charges he was found guilty of included living off the proceeds of sexual exploitation‚ being an accomplice to rape and contravening the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act.
