Husband wants wife to refund the N1.4m he spent during their marriage

A man has told his wife that if she wants a divorce, she must be ready to refund the N1.4 million he paid as her dowry.

A middle-aged-man, Collins Nduka, whose wife, Sefinat, dragged to the Ojo Customary Court in Lagos State to seek for a dissolution of their three year old marriage, has requested the court to compel her to return the over N1.4 million he paid as her bride price if she wants to leave the marriage.

Collins told the court that his estranged wife had left his home for over a year now and hence, he is in favour of the divorce suit she instituted against him, only if she can refund his money.

In his words:

"I would want a refund of the amount that I spent as marriage and dowry expenses because she has become unfaithful. My wife is not faithful to the marriage because she has other relationships apart from me and I no more love her.

I invited my friends from outside the country to make the marriage an expensive one and after spending all that money, she wants to leave me for another man. I need my dowry so she can be free to do what she likes.

The most painful thing is that she has parked all my belongings in my house to an unknown place in addition to her emptying my shop which I stocked with over N750,000."

Nduka also urged the court to compel Sekinat to return all the items she took from his house when parking out.
